White Book of Sarnen
The White Book of Sarnen is a collection of manuscripts compiled in the late 15th century by Hans Schriber. This volume, which is 258 pages in length and contains the earliest written document of the Legend of William Tell, was given its name because of the white parchment in which it is bound. It is an important piece of literature that was the basis of every other account for the past five-hundred years. And yet, after it was thought that the last copy was lost, it was accidentally rediscovered in 1865, Historians believe that it may even just be a copy of a document written in 1426.
Using our research we have concluded that the White Book of Sarnen is a rewording of a much older legend that originated in Scandinavia.
